Light Up Kilburn - Flower Workshop

  • Kingsgate Workshop Trust 110-116 Kingsgate Road London NW6 2JG London UK (map)

Join our Bioluminescent Garden workshop! Make and decorate UV flowers that will glow at Light Up Kilburn.

Bioluminescent Garden is a participatory light installation created with and for the local community. Through a hands-on workshop, participants are invited to make sculptural flowers using simple materials and decorate them with UV pens and paints. Participants will choose text, patterns, and imagery inspired by Kilburn’s streets, green spaces, and local histories, embedding a sense of place into each flower.

Following the workshop, the flowers will be installed together as a collective garden, building on an existing body of 30 flowers. When illuminated with UV lighting, the text, patterns and markings glow vividly, transforming the handmade forms into a softly luminous landscape.

The flowers created during the workshop will then be installed as part of the amazing Light Up Kilburn Festival in Kilburn Grange Park on the 27th & 28th February.

The project explores themes of transformation and biodiversity: together the flowers form a resilient, diverse ecosystem. The use of UV light creates a gentle, welcoming night-time presence, encouraging people to pause and gather, and subtly reimagining public space.

This co-created workshop and installation will be led by Hannah Whittaker. Hannah Whittaker is a performance maker and installation artist creating interactive installations and digital artworks. Her practice combines analogue making with projection mapping and other technologies.
