Circus Lights

Video Installation (2026)

This community light installation was created as part of Luton Lights Festival, produced by Ideas Test. I collaborated with Year 5 pupils from a local primary school and families attending drop-in workshops at Luton Library to design and animate a lively cast of circus characters using stop-motion techniques.

The children’s drawings were transformed into animations and brought together in a vibrant circus scene. These projections appeared each evening in the large windows of Bowen Moto on Luton High Street in the weeks leading up to the festival finale, turning the shopfront into a glowing public gallery and building anticipation across the town centre.

The project explored how playful making, collective storytelling, and simple animation techniques can transform everyday spaces into shared moments of spectacle and community pride.

The animations were also incorporated into projections on a circus big top during the festival’s closing celebration, where the young participants’ creations became part of a larger immersive environment of light, performance, and music.
